Where the green heart of the Saarkohlenwald forest beats
Dense greenery, overgrown paths, fallen trees, mosses and fungi, flowers and lichens: The primeval forest at the gates of the city has been a nature reserve and the green heart of the Saarkohlenwald forest since 1997.Since then, the wood has not been used commercially. As a result, species of original forests and floodplains that were thought to have been lost are returning.
There is a lot to see and experience here: for example, the two premium hiking trails 'Wilder Netzbachpfad' and 'Urwald-Tour', which meander through the primeval forest.
There are also bat and bird song hikes, eco-education, summer academies and much more.
So head off on an adventure in the primeval forest and take your family and friends along.
