The archaeological museum of the Saarland
The Museum of Prehistory and Early History presents a cross-section of human cultural development from the Stone Age through the Bronze and Iron Ages to the early Middle Ages. The focal point of the exhibition is the famous Celtic princely tomb of Reinheim (around 400 BC) with its precious jewellery and valuable grave goods. The most extensive part of the exhibition consists of artefacts from the Roman Imperial period (1st to 6th century AD): ceramic and glass vessels, tools and implements, coins, figurines made of stone, bronze and clay, inscriptions and the wall paintings from a villa in Mechern.
The collection is constantly being updated with new finds from the latest archaeological excavations.
