The Bürgerpark Hafeninsel was built on the historic site of the old coal harbour. It emerged from a rubble wasteland and debris pile, cleverly incorporating relics from the coal and steel era along with modern elements in its design.Today, this nine-hectare facility offers a wide range of amenities for visitors as well as residents of the surrounding city areas.
It features a boules court, a skate park and numerous small lawns for relaxation. The small amphitheater serves as an open-air stage for music groups during the summer.
